While taking the mandatory Hippocratic Oath, doctors pledge to provide treatment to the best of their ability and save a life. There’s one individual who has been walking extra miles to keep that promise. We are talking about the renowned Dr David K Pillai, the chairman of Kings International Medical Academy.

In a country like India with economic diversity, a lot of people are deprived of basic rights such as education and healthcare. Especially those from rural areas and underprivileged communities fail to avail these benefits owing to financial crises. Dr. David K Pillai, over the past 20 years, has strived to bridge this gap and open doors of opportunities to all. He took up the responsibility to serve the needy but aspiring people in many ways.

The fact is medical studies is expensive. To ensure every aspirant gets access to the course, Dr. David K Pillai has successfully made medical education affordable. He has been honoured with prestigious awards for this major contribution in the field of education.

2.      Reduced internship fees

It is mandatory for every foreign medical graduate to join an internship program after completing the course. The internship fee at one of the reputed colleges, Dr. MGR Medical University in Tamil Nadu was quite high at Rs. 3,54,000.

Dr. Pillai conveyed this issue to the Health and Family Welfare Minister of the state, honourable Ma. Subramanian and conducted extensive discussions. He had even handed him over a requisition letter officially requesting him to reduce these internship fees. Following this episode, the honourable minister slashed the cost to Rs.29,400 only.

As Dr. David K Pillai said, “Expending lakhs in studying medicine and then another 3 lakhs for internship is an unnecessary burden on students or their families. Not everyone is capable of spending such huge amounts. And we can’t afford to lose potential medical professionals just for the expensive cost of education and internship.”
