By the saying, “Philanthropy is not about the money. It’s about using whatever resources you have at your fingertips and applying them to improve the world” lives David Pillai K, the chairman of the prestigious Kings International Medical Academy.
Medical
education can change people's lives, but it is often too expensive for those
from low-income households—unless there are committed philanthropists like
Dr. Pillai.
Dr. David
K Pillai is a man of determination. He is a man who has dedicated his career to
helping others gain knowledge, skills, and the qualifications they need to
succeed in their field.
Dr. David
K Pillai has been the game-changer in the field of medical education in India.
He has fostered an environment where rural communities can raise their children
to fulfill their potential; he is a real inspiration for aspiring medical
students. Kings International Medical Academy in association with Davao Medical
School Foundation has opened new doors for the students who want to pursue a
career in medical science at an affordable cost. This association has already
produced more than 5000 medical graduates, with 2800 graduates practicing
medicine all over the world. That's 5000 dreams fulfilled, and countless lives
touched and saved.
Dr. David
K Pillai has changed the lives of thousands of aspiring medical students, and
he continues to do so. Dr. Pillai has been involved with the Davao Medical
School Foundation for more than a decade and has played an instrumental role in
developing the school into one of the top medical schools in the Philippines
and across the globe.
David Pillai’s corporate social responsibility
Corporate
Social Responsibility or CSR has evolved as an important part of the healthcare
sector. Besides being a successful entrepreneur, you need to be equally
responsible towards society on the whole. It is a known fact that CSR has been
instrumental in bringing social awareness and improving the socio-economic
standard of certain segments of the society in India.
“How far
do a doctor’s social abilities play a role during their practice?” For which
Dr. David responded, “While studying medical science, it is equally essential
for students to develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Apart from
developing one’s academic knowledge, making oneself emotionally aware, socially
responsive, and accountable is important. It helps one become a competent
doctor with better patient rapport, understanding, and adaptation to their surroundings”.
Under the
guidance of renowned educationist David Pillai K, Kings International
Medical Academy students will visit several rural areas in India to interact
with young people from economically weaker backgrounds. Those with bigger
dreams were provided exclusive opportunities for affordable education by Dr. Pillai.
Dr. Pillai’s philanthropic activities for Foreign Medical graduates
Dr. David
K Pillai, Chairman of Kings International Medical Academy, has become a hero to
all foreign medical graduates after the reduction in their internship fees at
Dr. MGR Medical University. This was not the first time that he played a
pivotal role in changing the life of a foreign medical graduate.
Students
were in a fix, going through a tough time as they had to pay a fee of Rs. 3,
54,000 for their medical internship. This burden was put upon them mainly
because they had received higher education from abroad. However, the fee was a
financial drain on their purses. Though the fees were too exorbitant for them
to afford, it was inevitable for them to undergo this internship program if
they wanted to practice in India after the completion of their medical studies
abroad.
Following
Dr. David K. Pillai’s appeal, the honourable minister has finally accepted Dr Pillai’s request. The medical internship fee at Dr. MGR Medical
University, Tamil Nadu has been slashed to Rs.29, 400 currently effective from
1st February 2022.
His
other philanthropic work
Daughter
of daily wage earners Shankar and Dhanalakshmi, S. Soundarya is studying her
medical education in the Philippines at the Davao Medical Education School
Foundation. Besides the expenditure for education, boarding, food, and
transport is being sponsored by Dr Pillai.
Dr. David
K Pillai had participated in a campaign that prioritized social equality among
the members of the village. David Pillai, Chairman of Kings International
medical academy (KIMA) added that “I believe these types of events are one way
to help the society by lending a hand to those already helping the
society". He added that these events promote harmony and the spirit of
community among the residents of the village. It even helps to break the
barriers in society, by giving new hopes to the young minds in the village.
A good education is crucial in ending the cycles of poverty and allowing everyone to fulfill their dreams.
